Hello May. It’s lovely to see you again.
If, like me, you live in the UK, we’ve recently been experiencing proper sunshine. When this happens, we come out of our houses to look up in awe at the bright yellow thing in the sky. We dust off the garden furniture, fire up the BBQ and make the most of the time we can spend in any outside space.
I don’t know about you but there is something so relaxing about sitting in the sun with a good novel.
I am hoping you’re as excited about this month’s book pick as I am. I believe it’s perfect for the warm days. A comfortable sofa inside also works incredibly well. Haha. I have been looking forward to reading this novel since it was announced. When I was reading the original series, the backstory of the character featured in this book intrigued me.
If you’ve not guessed by now, this month’s book is Sunrise on the Reaping, the latest Hunger Games novel by Suzanne Collins.
How do you take part in our book club I hear you ask? It’s easy. You can join us at any point in the month, whether you’re reading the book for the first time or excited to share your views having already finished it. The best part, you don’t have to even leave your house.
I’ve posted a question below to kickstart the discussion. I look forward to discussing this book with you.
About Sunrise on the Reaping –
Hello April.
We are a 1/4 of the way through 2025. The clocks have gone forward and we finally have the longer evenings in front of us.
Dare we even think about dusting off the garden furniture or planning trips to our favourite park so we can read in the fresh air? Or are you like me and plan to make some reading time in your comfy space at home?
Wherever you decide to take your books, I hope you’ll join me in reading this month’s pick. I am excited for it as it’s one I have been wanting to read for a while.
Us Three by Ruth Jones.
Despite being a fan of Gavin & Stacey, I am yet to read one of Ruth’s novels. I am very eager to get started.
So, how does our book club work? Anyone can take part, whether you’ve read the book or will be reading along with me. The best part, you don’t have to leave your house to take part. It can all be done from the sofa, armchair or bed. You can also join in at any point in the month.
I have posted a question below to get the conversation going.
I am really looking forward to discussing this book in the comments with you.
Happy New Year and Hello January.
I hope everyone enjoyed welcoming in 2025. Was it me or did 2024 go really quickly?
Like many people, I always feel a little sad at this time of year. I don’t like saying goodbye to the Christmas tree, lights and brightness. Everything always feels a little plain. Of course, the weather doesn’t help this feeling of melancholy.
So, for January’s book club choice, I wanted to pick a book that sends us into a magical, colourful world – the wonderful world of OZ.
I wanted to join in with the buzz of Wicked but I feel that the novel that inspired this story needs a little love too. That is why I’ve chosen The Wonderful Wizard of OZ by L. Frank Baum.
I was shocked to realise that, although I know the 1939 movie, I’ve never read the novel. So, here we are. I think it’s the perfect story to kick off 2025.
How to join our book club –
Can you hear those bells? Ho, Ho, Ho, it’s December.
For me, this time of year means advent calendars (I am firmly in the never too old for one camp), decorating my Christmas tree, Christmas films, even the really cheesy ones, and belting out the Christmas songs. I’m not so sure if my neighbours are a fan of the last one.
Another thing I love about this time of year is the Christmas fiction. There’s not many things I like more than to find a cozy jumper and snuggle down with the Christmas lights on. Also required – a hot chocolate, a cat curled up on my lap and a festive novel to fall into.
I can’t do much about the hot chocolate, the cat or the comfy spot from here but I can give you a suggestion for a book. This month, the book I’ve picked is The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter.
This book sounds amazing. The blurb makes it feels so fun. Festive feels and a puzzle – what else could I ask for? I am a big fan of this author and I hope that you’ll join me in reading this novel this month.
Our book club is open to anyone and you don’t even have to go out in the horrible weather. Don’t worry if you’ve not started yet, you are welcome to join in at any point in the month or maybe you’ve already read it? I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts about this book in the comments below. I have even added a question to get the discussion going.
However you approach December, I hope you have a wonderful month full of twinkly lights and chocolate.

About The Most Wonderful Crime Of The Year –
October is here. Autumn has arrived, the clocks go back and of course, Halloween is approaching.
It’s one of my favourite months (although I am a little biased with it being my birthday in October.) I am sad to be saying goodbye to summer but at the same time, I love the colder nights. It’s a great reason for the warm blankets, tea and books. Not that I’ve needed an excuse.
This month, the featured book we shall be reading is A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. This is book one in the All Souls series and I think it’s perfect for the spookiest month of the year.
Our book club is open to everyone. It’s online so no need to remove the warm socks, get up from the comfy sofa and discard the cozy blanket. I think this is even the best excuse for a hot chocolate too… go on, treat yourself. I’ve posted a question below to get the discussion going. Whether you’ve already read it or will be reading along with me, I look forward to discussing this book with you in the comments.
About the book:
Diana and Matthew – the forbidden love at the heart of it.
When historian Diana Bishop opens an alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, it’s an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordered life. Though Diana is a witch of impeccable lineage, the violent death of her parents while she was still a child convinced her that human fear is more potent than any witchcraft. Now Diana has unwittingly exposed herself to a world she’s kept at bay for years; one of powerful witches, creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires.
Sensing the significance of Diana’s discovery, the creatures gather in Oxford, among them the enigmatic Matthew Clairmont, a vampire genticist.
