Blog Tour: The One That Got Away by Annabel Kantaria

annabel book coverThe One That Got Away is the latest novel by Annabel Kantaria. It’s due to be released by HQ in paperback and eBook tomorrow.

Everyone has one. An ex you still think about. The one who makes you ask ‘what if’?

Fifteen years have passed since Stella and George last saw each other. But something makes Stella click ‘yes’ to the invite to her school reunion.

There’s still a spark between them, and although their relationship ended badly, they begin an affair.

But once someone gets you back, sometimes they’re never going to let you go again…

Stella and George were a couple at school. However, when a big event occurs., George leaves and they end up not seeing one another for a few years.

The next time they do, it is at a school reunion. As soon as George sees Stella, all the old feelings come rushing back and they are soon having an affair.

Stella wants George back and she believes he wants the same thing.

This book is told from the point of view of both Stella and George so as I was reading, I did get a really good all round idea of what each of them felt and thought. It pulled me into the story very quickly. My allegiance switched between them many times throughout the novel. The narration and the plot really had me questioning what was going on pretty much all the time I was reading.

This meant that I couldn’t stop reading! Seriously, I was incredibly addicted to this book. It didn’t really leave my sight for the 24 hours that it took me to read it.

I had a mixture of like and dislike for the two main characters. Nothing about them is simply black and white. They are very complex and motives for both of them are not always clear.

It’s one of the things I loved most about The One That Got Away – the constant uncertainty.

I found the novel thrilling and enjoyable especially as I didn’t see the ending coming. The ending for me was a little sad actually. I did cry (just a little.)

The plot and the style of writing is very moorish and unique. The characters are developed well. It wasn’t the novel I thought it was in a totally positive way.

The One That Got Away is a clever, physiological thriller.

It’s a fantastic book. I loved it. I am eager to read more from Annabel.

The One That Got Away is due to be released on 21st September 2017 by HQ. It will be available in both paperback and eBook from most UK book shops.

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
