Book Review: Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop by Hannah Lynn

I am pleased to be welcoming Hannah Lynn to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for her novel, Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop.

A getaway to remember…

It’s Holly’s best friend’s hen do and the plan is a week away in the South of France.

With little Hope still so very young, it’s going to be difficult for Holly to tear herself away, but Ben is the perfect co-parent and her own parents are just down the road, so – Holly decides – there’s really nothing holding her back, is there?

Will the sunshine and sea air help her get back to who she really is? Or will this be the perfect distraction, a chance to have a holiday fling?

Bask in the sunny skies of France with everyone’s favourite sweet shop owner – because everyone deserves a break, don’t they?

*****

Holly is on her way to the south of France to celebrate her friend’s hen do. With Hope being so little, Holly is finding it hard to leave her daughter but with ex-boyfriend, Ben being such a great co-parent and it only being for four days, she is eventually convinced to go.

Looking forward to celebrating with friends and having a brief rest, she doesn’t count on meeting the gorgeous Evan.

This is the first book I’ve read, not only from the Holly Berry Sweet Shop series but from author, Hannah Lynn.

Although Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop is book five in the series, I felt that there was enough information given on previous events that meant I could keep up. I do want to add the first four books to my TBR pile though as I have fallen in love with these characters.

Holly is a sweetheart and has been through a lot. She is devoted to her daughter, that is obvious. I do like how Hannah Lynn has shone a light on how important it is for mothers to, if possible, have a break and not feel guilty about it.

Evan seems almost too good to be true but that didn’t stop me from completely adoring him. Whether he is as nice as he seems is something I hope you’ll discover for yourselves. The supporting cast were brilliant. I loved Jamie, Caroline and Fin.

The plot moved well. There were twists and turns that meant I wanted to keep reading.

The setting at the villa sounded like heaven. Can I go? Can I go, please? I wanted to step into the book and just sit by that pool. I could imagine the scenery and it all felt so calming and beautiful.

This book is a lovely holiday read or, if you’re looking for a romantic escape for a while.

Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop is full of warmth, charm, laughter, friendship and love. It’s also about having courage and taking that leap of faith. It’s such a sweet story and I didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters. I really hope we see them again. Maybe a Christmas catch up? Pretty please?

I loved this book and I hope you do too.

I’m Laura. I started Novel Kicks in 2009. I wanted a place to post my writing as well as give other writers like me the opportunity to do the same. There is also a monthly book club, a writing room which features writing prompts, book reviews, competitions, author interviews and guest posts.

I grew up by the sea (my favourite place in the world) and I currently live in Hampshire. I am married to Chris, have a cat named Buddy and I would love to be a writer. I’m trying to write the novel I’ve talked so much about writing if only I could stop pressing delete. I’ve loved writing since creative writing classes in primary school. I have always wanted to see my teacher Miss Sayers again and thank her for the encouragement. When not trying to write the novel or writing snippets of stories on anything I can get my hands on, I love reading, dancing like a loon and singing to myself very badly. My current obsession is Once Upon a Time and I would be happy to live with magic in the enchanted forest surrounded by all those wonderful stories provided that world also included Harry Potter. I love reading chick lit. contemporary fiction and novels with mystery.
