My 2016 Christmas Gift Guide For Readers

Paperchase Book JournalIt’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. It is starting to feel quite festive and there is only a few days to go before the big day; Christmas dinner, the queen’s speech and most importantly, time with loved ones.

What this time of year also brings is the dilemma of what to buy. One of the things I love most about this time of year is buying gifts for other people. I have been looking through the internet and have found some lovely gift suggestions for the lover of books in your life.

First, there is this lovely book journal. I adore using journals like these. It’s a nice and useful way of making notes about books you’ve read (this is helpful when running a blog or simply if you like to work through your thoughts after finishing a book.)

There is a section for the title, author, and then the second half of the page is a notes section. There is also a section for books you’d like to read, books you have borrowed and books that you’ve lent out to people too.

I think this would make a lovely stocking filler for any book lover – perhaps with a lovely pen?

(Book journal: Paperchase, £8.)

book/chocolate giftThe second gift is this very cute Book Lovers Chocolate And Book Gift Set from Quirky Gift Library (via Not On The High Street.) I mean, hello! It combines books and chocolate. It had me at that. There is a bar of chocolate (where you can choose from nine chocolate types and is made using yummy Belgian chocolate.) This will have a book quote on it too.

You are able to pick between five of the hardback clothbound classics collection from Penguin which include Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H Lawrence (this one is for adult’s only,) Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift and Emma by Jane Austen.

All this comes with a gift envelope so it’s a great gift for anyone you know that loves the classics.

Next up is something that would be perfect if you were looking for a stocking filler and it’s these very cute book badges. They are from Book Lover Gifts and they are only 99 pence each. You have the choice between three designs.

Start off your day with the great, Once Upon A Time quote. I Love Books is a simple statement and as the website says, wear it with pride and finally, there is a Pride and Prejudice themed one which says ‘Mrs Darcy.’ I’d like that one please.

This site has a great range of book gifts so it is worth checking out.
Like this book charm necklace for example. It comes with a lovely book quote ‘I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How sooner one tires of anything than of a book.’
The charm itself, as you can see is of a book. It’s handmade and it is presented on a postcard which has the quote written on it. The charm is made from silver tone metal and the chain is a silver plated trace chain. This would be perfect for any book lover I think.

(I Love Books badge, 99 pence, Mrs Darcy badge, 99 pence and Once Upon a Time badge, 99 pence. Book Charm Quote Necklace, £15. Book Lover Gifts.)

Personalised Penguin Book CoverNext up is this adorable personalised Penguin book cover print by BokaPrint on Etsy. This is one of my personal favourites and has definitely gone onto my christmas list.
This is available in sizes including A2, A3 and A4 as well as 7×5 and 11×17. Prices start from £7.50. There is also a variety of colours that you can pick from the classic orange to a beautiful duck egg colour (and you can pick from clean or vintage.)
The text on the print can be personalised. For example, you could have someone’s favourite book title (doesn’t have to be a penguin title,) or their favourite song. You could even have Merry Christmas. You can also decide how many penguins you want to include. This gift would be perfect for a book lover or a couple who love reading.

(Personalised Penguin Book Cover Print, from £7.50.)

Finally, I wanted to include this beautiful book mark. Winnie The Pooh is a set of books I remember fondly from my childhood as do winnie the pooh book markmany people. The illustration (by Ernest. H. Shepard) is so beautiful and lends itself well to this silver plated bookmark with a glass dome.

Bookmarks are always a good present to get for stocking fillers and I think this one is perfect. The charm is on a 3 1/2 silver plated bookmark and is presented in an organza gift bag.

(Winnie The Pooh Book Mark, HazyDayCharms, Etsy. £6.50.)

I hope this list has given you a little inspiration. I am also planning on posting one for writers too soon for people who need inspiration for any writers they know.

I’m Laura. I started Novel Kicks in 2009. I wanted a place to post my writing as well as give other writers like me the opportunity to do the same. There is also a monthly book club, a writing room which features writing prompts, book reviews, competitions, author interviews and guest posts.

I grew up by the sea (my favourite place in the world) and I currently live in Hampshire. I am married to Chris, have a cat named Buddy and I would love to be a writer. I’m trying to write the novel I’ve talked so much about writing if only I could stop pressing delete. I’ve loved writing since creative writing classes in primary school. I have always wanted to see my teacher Miss Sayers again and thank her for the encouragement. When not trying to write the novel or writing snippets of stories on anything I can get my hands on, I love reading, dancing like a loon and singing to myself very badly. My current obsession is Once Upon a Time and I would be happy to live with magic in the enchanted forest surrounded by all those wonderful stories provided that world also included Harry Potter. I love reading chick lit. contemporary fiction and novels with mystery.
