I’m Laura. I started Novel Kicks in 2009. I wanted a place to post my writing as well as give other writers like me the opportunity to do the same. There is also a monthly book club, a writing room which features writing prompts, book reviews, competitions, author interviews and guest posts.

I grew up by the sea (my favourite place in the world) and I currently live in Hampshire. I am married to Chris, have a cat named Buddy and I would love to be a writer. I’m trying to write the novel I’ve talked so much about writing if only I could stop pressing delete. I’ve loved writing since creative writing classes in primary school. I have always wanted to see my teacher Miss Sayers again and thank her for the encouragement. When not trying to write the novel or writing snippets of stories on anything I can get my hands on, I love reading, dancing like a loon and singing to myself very badly. My current obsession is Once Upon a Time and I would be happy to live with magic in the enchanted forest surrounded by all those wonderful stories provided that world also included Harry Potter. I love reading chick lit. contemporary fiction and novels with mystery.

I’m Marta from Malaga, Spain. My favourite character is Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games saga. She’s so determinated and she loves her family so much that she gains that strenght she thought she’ll never have.

  • Kelsey says:

I’m Kelsey from Minnesota. My favorite book character is Emma from the book of the same name by Jane Austen. I really enjoyed reading about her because she cares deeply for her loved ones, but she is also flawed just like the rest of us!

  • Amanda says:

I’m Amanda and I’m from Manaus, Brazil
My favorite book character is Gideon Cross from the books Bared to You, Reflected in You and Entwinned With You, because I think it’s fascinating how a person can lose her mind, when the jealousy and the feeling that a person it’s yours makes you go crazy, and you make everything to be with her, even when exist so many barriers, you just know that she is the one, and she is yours. I love to read how Gideon confirms all the time how powerfull he is and how he doesn’t care to show that he owns Eva, how he only wants to have her by his side, how he needs her love, how he can’t see her with another man, besides him. You can feel the protection and the love that he passes for her, even when he exaggerates.

  • Kirsty says:

I’m Kirsty from Leven, Scotland. The very first book I read and that got me addicted to books is Harry Potter, and it’s one of the books I always go back to reading. I love all the characters and love how I get so absorbed into the story even after 12 years! I don’t have one specific character from it, and I don’t have a long reason to loving them, just the plain and simple one, it makes me feel happy and absorbs me into it completely.

  • Daniele Brooman says:

Hi, my name is Daniele Brooman and I’m from Coventry, UK.
It is really hard to decide one single character to talk about. I admire the power of girls such as Hermione, Gina (Harry Potter), Katniss (Hunger Games) and Melani (The host). Girls who can still fight and fight harder even though their heart are broken in so many ways and their world and believes are about to vanish (not because of a guy, but because of something much bigger than a teenage love). But of course I’m still a girl and can’t help but fall in love with Patch (Hush, Hush) and Jace (Mortal Instruments) and how they don’t seem to understand how good they are.

My favourite book character is Loghain from David Gaider’s The Stolen Throne, because despite that his best friend Maric is a prince who the invading country would love to get their hands on (and kind of a giant, cheating douchebag), and the fact that Loghain is in love with his betrothed, Loghain still goes out of his way to keep Maric safe and restore him to his rightful place. That, and the fact that he kicks some serious darkspawn and dragon butt! 😀 <3

  • Michelle Martensson says:

My name is Michelle and I’m from a town called Klippan in Sweden. My favourite book character is Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling. Draco Malfoy is my favourite character since when we get to know him in the first book he seems really “cocky” and tough, but towards the end of the series I feel that he grows more and more vulnerable and he seems so small. He’s no longer the tough boy like he was in the beginning, but very helpless. That’s the feeling I get when I read the books. It proves that even if you feel really big, cocky and cool it’s not always easy to remain that way, especially not when greater powers begin to take over, and it feels as if he began to fear what would happen.

  • Ellie says:

It’s so hard to choose just one character because I read so much but I’ve always loved Georgia Nicholson from Louise Rennison’s ‘Confessions of Georgia Nicholson’ series. He is so sweet and caring, and even though his life if busy he always tries and makes like for Sophie. he kept her involved and when things went wrong he never gave up trying to fix it and to get her back. Also, he didn’t care about what everyone else thought and said, he kept by Sophie and stuck up for her because he cared so much! Billy is just so perfect!!:)x

  • Lilia says:

I’m Lilia from Sofia, Bulgaria. My all time favourite character is Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. • Inu says:

My name’s Inu and I’m from Denmark. My favorite book character is without a doubt Dexter Mayhew from One Day by David Nicholls. The reason why he’s my favorite character is that his life doesn’t turn out the way he wanted it to be, lost a few people and got a bit of an alcohol problem. But in the end, he accepted things the way the are and hopefully got a happy ending with someone new after Emma passed away.

    • Ashleigh Marie Symms says:

My favourite book character is ‘Nick Carraway’ from ‘The Great Gatsby’. This is because he represents innocence within the book as he is easily submerged with the lives of his moneyed new friends; and lead by ‘Gatsby’ and his cousin ‘Amy Buchanan’. Nonetheless, he represents hope and portrays ‘Gatsby’s’ true character after his death. A beautiful character.

I would love to read ‘Billy and Me’ and I am dying for the chance to get my hands on a copy of the book.

  • Trish says:

I’m Trish from Blackburn. My favourite book character is Isobel the fairy from It’s A Kind of Magic by Carole Matthews. She’s just adorable and lovable and there just aren’t enough grown up books about fairies!

I always use a bookmark and have different kinds. Hate seeing someone reading a book and then folding over the corner when they want to shut the book.
Favourite book character has to Vianne Rocher in the book – Chocolate by Joanne Harris. I would love to own a chocolate boutique (though I’d probably have little to sell as I would eat most of them myself) and really love to live in France too. Can’t see that happening to me but, you just never know what will happen my life, next…..

    • Carrie Burgess says:

I’m Carrie and i’m from St. Ives, Cambridgeshire ish… My favourite character is Augustus Waters from my favourite book ever ‘The fault in our stars’ by John Green, Augustus is just so lovely to Grace and he helps her enjoy her life even though she has a life threatening illness!
