Book Review: Blind Pursuit By Rob Sinclair

I am absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Rob Sinclair to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for his new book, Blind Pursuit.

Callum Murphy thought he was happily married to a corporate consultant…

But when police show up at Callum’s work site, informing him of his wife Lea’s death – his world starts to crumble. And it turns out, her death was just the beginning…

Within a few hours, Callum is told that Lea was, in fact, an MI6 agent who was killed because of intelligence only she had, strangers with guns break into his home and he’s forced to run for his life. Thrust into a terrifying chase across Europe, Callum has to dodge British police and shadowy MI6 operatives who believe he knows more than he’s letting on. All the while trying to piece together the truth about his wife’s final mission.

But the deeper he digs, the more dangerous his situation becomes, forcing him to ask the ultimate question: Who did he marry, and can he trust anything she ever said to him?

*****

Callum loves his wife, Lea. However, when he is told she’s been killed overseas on what he believed to be a business trip, his world starts to unravel quickly. He soon learns that the woman he loved was someone he didn’t really know at all.

I was delighted to be welcomed onto the blog tour for Blind Pursuit, the latest novel by Rob Sinclair. Having not had a chance to read any of his previous books, I didn’t fully know what to expect. All I knew was that the premise sounded very engaging. And boy was it.

Told from both Callum and Lea’s perspective in a dual timeline, the reader is immediately pulled into the action. We meet Lea and Denis as they navigate their way through a secret operation, From there, the story continues to move at a fast pace with high octane stakes and a plot that pretty much had me gripped and second guessing until the last page. I seriously could not predict how it was going to end. I felt like I was navigating my way through the danger with Callum. Bravo to Rob Sinclair for the pacing and overall mystery and intrigue that he kept up all the way through. The narrative really doesn’t let up in terms of thrills.

The characters were as hard to decipher as much as the plot was. Like Callum, I didn’t know who I could trust. Who was on his side? Who wasn’t? I found myself having a big soft spot for Callum and couldn’t help but feel for him. To find out that the person you thought you knew was leading a double life – how do you know if anything in your life was real? It’s a psychological minefield I hope to never be in. The confusion, distress and grief Callum feels is palpable.

The other characters are an interesting bunch of people. Denis, well, I am going to let you make up your own mind up about him. Same with Jenn, Erica, Andrew and Warren. Like I said, you don’t know who to trust at all and this adds so much to the tension and suspense that just builds and builds. I had to go back a page at points as I was reading so fast. I wanted to know what and who were behind the events of the story.

As I am now in the danger zone of giving away spoilers, I am going to stop now. Blind Pursuit is a belter of a thriller that had me up until the early hours frantically reading, and completely engrossed. It has the right amount of drama, actions and thrills. If you’re a fan of Jack Reacher and/or simply love a good, strong spy novel, this book is perfect for you. I find myself hoping that these characters get a book series. I find myself wanting to know more. It would also make a brilliant adaptation to TV.

I loved it.

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
