Book Review: Love Blooms at the Cornish Cottage By Kim Nash

A big massive hello to Kim Nash and the blog tour for her book, Love Blooms at the Cornish Cottage.

💔 How do you mend a broken heart? 💔

Michelle finally thought she’d found love with her hot Greek doctor. But when Demetri reveals he’s returning home to care for his sick mother, Michelle’s dream future crumbles. Choosing not to follow him feels like losing more than just love – it feels like losing who she’d started to become.

Determined not to fall apart, Michelle decides to throw herself into rebuilding her life in Sandpiper Shore, but then unexpectedly, Demetri’s brother, Makkis, arrives on her doorstep. Offering him a room seems like the kind thing to do… but the constant reminder of her lost love is difficult for her heartbroken soul.

And the more time she spends with Makkis, the clearer it becomes: there are parts of Demetri she never knew… Just as Michelle starts to heal with a little help from her friends, she’s faced with a decision: fight for the love she knows she deserves, or finally learn how to let go…

*****

Michelle feels like life is finally going well. Her business is good, she has great friends, she adores Sandpiper Shore and best of all, she’s found a man who makes her happy. When he tells her that he needs to go back to Greece, her world shatters. Will Michelle find her happily ever after or do they only belong in romance novels?

I do like myself a Kim Nash novel. I was very happy and grateful to be invited onto the blog tour for her latest book, Love Blooms at the Cornish Cottage. This is book 3 in the Sandpiper series. I had read book 1 but sadly hadn’t got around to reading book 2. I didn’t feel like I couldn’t keep up with events though. It can be read as a standalone. I so enjoyed being a part of The Lonely-Hearts Club, even if only for the course of this book.

As I’ve come to expect from Kim Nash’s novels, it didn’t take me long to get fully enveloped in Michelle’s story. It had me hooked from the first to the last page. I don’t want to give too much away when it comes to plot. What I will say is that Michelle goes through the ringer throughout the course of this book. I wanted to give her such a big hug. Michelle is overall a positive and trusting person. She’s got a wonderful aura about her. Therefore, as the plot unfolded, I got so angry on her behalf.

The other characters are great. I adored seeing Jo again and Emma is equally brilliant. I want to adopt Jacqui. Seth and Daisy were also amongst my favourites. It was brothers, Demetri and Makkis I couldn’t work out. Along with romance and a portion of what felt like real life, believable events, there was a small mystery as to whom Michelle and the reader could trust.

The setting is of course stunning. I could see Sandpiper Shore, hear the waves, smell the salt in the air. It felt like such a romantic, beautiful place. There are some hard going themes explored including that of grief and loss. I can’t tell you anymore as it will be a major spoiler, but the author presents these circumstances with grace and thoughtfulness and, I am not going to lie, the conversations between Michelle and Jacqui had me crying as I could relate a lot to the subject matter.

Love Blooms at the Cornish Cottage was a well-received escape into a charming, bewitching story that sends you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I was cheering one moment, shouting at characters the next and then smiling so hard. There’s a lot of feeling, heart, humour, friendship and family portrayed, and I can’t wait to go back to Sandpiper Shore. Please tell me there will be a book 4, Kim Nash? …Please?…Pretty please?

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
