Book Review: The Cottage in Sweet Meadow Park by Liz Davies

I’m very pleased to be welcoming Liz Davis to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for her book, The Cottage in Sweet Meadow Park.

Enjoy a stroll in the park with this uplifting story of love, friendship and following your dreams.

When Molly Brown buys a derelict cottage in the middle of a rundown park, she hopes to return both the cottage and the park to their former glory. However, Molly soon begins to wonder whether she’s bitten off more than she can chew, especially when the good-looking guy from the council refuses to help.

In his role as Parks and Highways Officer, Jack Feathers doesn’t want to waste public funds on an overgrown, unloved park, no matter how gorgeous Molly is. But when he finds himself needing somewhere to live, Molly makes him an offer he can’t refuse – to move into her spare room, rent-free.

The catch? He has to help bring the park back to life.

It seems to be an ideal solution, until… Molly falls for Jack, the park is vandalised, and she realises he is still in love with his ex.

And soon Molly begins to regret letting Jack into her home, her life and her heart.

*****

Molly Brown has always harboured a dream and that is to live in the cottage within the grounds of Sweet Meadow Park. With the house very run down, she knows she has her work cut out. She isn’t just going to transform the house, she’s going to take on the park beyond too.

When she meets Jack, she doesn’t like him at first. However, when circumstances change and he ends up being her lodger, will it just be the house being transformed or her whole life?

I was very excited to be taking part in another blog tour with Liz Davis and going by the cover alone (which is so pretty,) I couldn’t wait to get started.

Molly is a sweetheart and someone who is very determined. She is strong and doesn’t let much stand in her way, well, aside from herself. I share her dream of having a beautiful cottage at the edge of a park and wanted to see her succeed.

Jack. Oh Jack. He is a gentle soul – shy and unassuming. He is simply trying to do what is within his power to do but he still manages to get on Molly’s bad side; at least to begin with.

I lost track of the amount of times I wanted to jump into the book and bang their heads together. Haha. Their relationship was a series of misunderstandings and assumptions and it’s something I feel a lot of people will be able to relate to.

The supporting cast of Bill, Fiona, Della and Molly’s parents were great and I hope I am right in assuming that the next book in the series will focus on Fiona and Bill? I hope so. Patch and Jet stole my heart.

The plot moved well and I pretty much read it in a couple of sittings. I became invested quickly and felt sad when I had to say goodbye to the characters at the end of the novel. The descriptions of the park felt very vivid and I could picture it.

As we move into the warmer weather (I hope,) this book will be perfect for that quiet afternoon in the garden, a companion for a holiday or if you’re just looking for a bit of romance.

The Cottage in Sweet Meadow Park is a sweet, gentle story of two people falling in love – with their lives and with each other. I adored this story and look forward to what comes next.

About Liz Davis –

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.

Say hello to Liz on X (Twitter).

The Cottage in Sweet Meadow Park was released in 2024 by Lilac Tree Books and is book one in the Sweet Meadow series. Click here to buy on Amazon UK and Waterstones

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
