My Writing Ramblings: Help! I’m Laura and I’m a PLL Obsessive…

rp_Laura-Book-300x2251-300x2251-300x225-300x225.jpgHello Wednesday. How are you?

We are halfway through the week (unless like me you’re a shift worker.) I hope you’ve been making the most of the sunshine when it has dared to show itself (Sunday was incredibly warm.) What I love about summer is that I can emerge from the chair in my little writing nook and get outside for some fresh air and brightness. It is so quiet where I live and although it is surrounded by houses there is also a lot of woodland (perfect for if I need a walk for inspiration.) It is not near the beach (which I was only fifteen minutes away at the most growing up) but it is the next best thing for sure.

The Austen reading challenge is going OK. I am trying to read it around another book so not reading as quickly as I could be doing. Emma is one of the books I’ve not read so the plot is a little bit more unfamiliar to say, Pride and Prejudice. So far so good. Emma is actually quite a tragic character isn’t she. She’s so busy matchmaking that she doesn’t take care of herself.

The obsession I do have at the moment is Pretty Little Liars. I am a little late to the PLL party but I am wondering what took me so long. It’s so good. I’ve even got the husband watching it. All six and a bit series are currently on Netflix and I’ve managed to watch all of them. I am suffering from PLL withdrawal. This new obsession hasn’t helped my productivity one bit. I blame Netflix.

ABC Family, Alloy Entertainment & Warner Horizon Television

My latest obsession is Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family, Alloy Entertainment & Warner Horizon Television)

I have managed to do most of my character biographies. I am just doing a couple more exercises in relation to them. For anyone who is interested, I am making my way through Ready Set  Novel. It’s great if you do want to check it out. It’s written by the people who are behind National Novel Writing Month. I am enjoying making my way through this as it appeals to the girl in me that likes workbooks and stationery.

It allows space for character information, a timeline, a family tree, plot points and there is also a page for a collage of what the character might like.

The one thing I have set myself this week is a deadline. The more I plan, the more deadlines are becoming important to me. I know myself. I could let this part go on forever – the planning part. I am terrified of beginning my book and so I name myself the Queen of Procrastination. In the past I have done anything to avoid writing my book because I am worried it is not good enough. Well, no more! I have until 31st August to get all my planning done. Come 1st September, I am coming to get you, Novel.

Until next week writing people.

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
