Novel Kicks Book Club: The Flatshare by Beth O’ Leary

Hello August. It’s excellent to see you.

This month, I have chosen The Flatshare by Beth O’ Leary.

Tiffy and Leon share a flat
Tiffy and Leon share a bed
Tiffy and Leon have never met…

Tiffy Moore needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon Twomey works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they’re crazy, but it’s the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy’s at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time.

But with obsessive ex-boyfriends, demanding clients at work, wrongly imprisoned brothers and, of course, the fact that they still haven’t met yet, they’re about to discover that if you want the perfect home you need to throw the rulebook out the window…

I have heard many good things about this book and I am looking forward to reading it and discussing it with you.

As usual, I have posted a question below to start the discussion. Anyone is welcome to join.

The Flatshare was released by Quercus on 18th April 2019. Click to view on Amazon.

I’m Laura. I started Novel Kicks in 2009. I wanted a place to post my writing as well as give other writers like me the opportunity to do the same. There is also a monthly book club, a writing room which features writing prompts, book reviews, competitions, author interviews and guest posts.

I grew up by the sea (my favourite place in the world) and I currently live in Hampshire. I am married to Chris, have a cat named Buddy and I would love to be a writer. I’m trying to write the novel I’ve talked so much about writing if only I could stop pressing delete. I’ve loved writing since creative writing classes in primary school. I have always wanted to see my teacher Miss Sayers again and thank her for the encouragement. When not trying to write the novel or writing snippets of stories on anything I can get my hands on, I love reading, dancing like a loon and singing to myself very badly. My current obsession is Once Upon a Time and I would be happy to live with magic in the enchanted forest surrounded by all those wonderful stories provided that world also included Harry Potter. I love reading chick lit. contemporary fiction and novels with mystery.

Thanks so much for choosing this book – I loved it. Stayed up way too late every night reading it.

I liked then both from the start. I could totally empathise with Tiffy looking for a cheap flat in London, I saw some awful places when I first moved there, luckily I didnt have to settle for any of them.

I found the way Leon was written intriguing, the short, not full sentences. Why was it written like that, I couldn’t work out what it was telling us about him.

About half way through the book I thought it was wrapping up, and couldn’t work out what could happen that would take up another half the book – then it all really kicked off!!

I too have heard good things about this, and have it on my TBR pile! This will push me to read it, thanks Laura!
