Blog Tour – What a Girl Wants by Lindsey Kelk

Lindsey_KelkWe are very happy to welcome Lindsey Kelk back to Novel Kicks. Her new book, What a Girl Wants will be released by Harper on 17th July 2014. As part of her blog tour, we had a chat with Lindsey about anthems, favourite words and writing advice…

Hi Lindsey, can you tell us about your new book?

It’s called What a Girl Wants and it’s the follow up to last summer’s About a Girl. It’s fun, funny read, all about the choices people have to make in life and what the consequences might be if they make the wrong ones!

Which three words would best describe you?

Loyal, funny, tired

What song would be your anthem? Which one do you think Tess would pick?

Get Up by SLeater-Kinney. Tess would really struggle because she’s not good with music or bands. She’d probably let Amy choose it for her – actually, she should choose I Knew You Were Trouble!

Favourite word and why?

It would be one of the bad ones so I can’t say. Such a sense of satisfaction…

Which three things would you need with you on a desert island?

iPod, Kindle and Miss Tuna, my friend’s Chihuahua.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve been given?

This is going to sound lame but read as much as you can and write as much as you can. every time I read a good book or a great line it reminds me why I’m doing what I’m doing and makes me want to be better.

What are your TV/Music guilty pleasures?

I don’t believe in guilty pleasures unless they’re chocolate-based because all the TV I love is pretty cheesy – Law & Order:SVU, American Dad, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, The Vampire Diaries, Game of Thrones, True Blood – anything overly dramatic or ridiculously silly. Music-wise, I used to be a real indie snob but who doesn’t love Taylor Swift? Really?

About Lindsey:

Lindsey Kelk is a British writer and used to be a children’s book editor. When she isn’t writing, reading, listening to music or watching more TV than is healthy, Lindsey likes to wear shoes, shop for shoes and judge the shoes of others. She loves living in New York but misses Sherbert Fountains, London and drinking Gin & Elderflower cocktails with her friends. Not necessarily in that order.

About What a Girl Wants:

Being arrested in your own bedroom is never a good start to the day. Tess Brookes really needs to sort out her back-stabbing flatmate – and her life.

Should she gamble all on the new photography job she’s landed, or snap up the offer from long-time crush and best friend Charlie to start up on their own – in more ways than one? There’s just one small thing she hasn’t mentioned. Or rather, one tall thing. He’s handsome, infuriating and called Nick…

For the first time, Tess has to choose between the life she always dreamed of and a future she never imagined possible. From London to Milan, with high fashion and low behaviour thrown in, she’s going to have to make up her mind what a girl really wants…

What a Girl Wants (released by Harper,) is available for pre-order now and will be available from 17th July 2014.

I’m Laura. I started Novel Kicks in 2009. I wanted a place to post my writing as well as give other writers like me the opportunity to do the same. There is also a monthly book club, a writing room which features writing prompts, book reviews, competitions, author interviews and guest posts.

I grew up by the sea (my favourite place in the world) and I currently live in Hampshire. I am married to Chris, have a cat named Buddy and I would love to be a writer. I’m trying to write the novel I’ve talked so much about writing if only I could stop pressing delete. I’ve loved writing since creative writing classes in primary school. I have always wanted to see my teacher Miss Sayers again and thank her for the encouragement. When not trying to write the novel or writing snippets of stories on anything I can get my hands on, I love reading, dancing like a loon and singing to myself very badly. My current obsession is Once Upon a Time and I would be happy to live with magic in the enchanted forest surrounded by all those wonderful stories provided that world also included Harry Potter. I love reading chick lit. contemporary fiction and novels with mystery.
