Novel Kicks Book Club: Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

Firefly LaneI’m very excited to be posting a new Book Club title.

It’s summer and fingers crossed, we get some lovely days to sit and relax with a book in the garden but even if we don’t, I am hoping you’ll join me in reading this month’s choice.

The book I have chosen this month is one I have been looking forward to reading since I saw the Netflix show.

It’s Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.

Usually, I try to read the book before seeing any kind of TV/film adaptation but having heard so many good things about the TV series, I couldn’t resist. What about you? Do you prefer to read the book before adaptation?

Our book club is open to anyone, whether you’ve already read the novel or will be reading along with me and taking part can be from the comfort of the sofa, armchair – wherever you read.

I’ll put a question in the comments below to kickstart the discussion. Looking forward to seeing you there.

About Firefly Lane –

It is 1974 and the summer of love is finally drawing to a close. The flower children are starting to realise that you cannot survive on peace and love alone.

Then, to her amazement, the coolest girl in the world , Tully Hart the girl all the boys want to know – moves in across the street and wants to be her best friend. Tully and Kate became inseparable and by summer s end they made a pact to be best friends forever.

For thirty years Tully and Kate buoy each other through life, weathering the storms of friendship, jealousy, anger, hurt and resentment. Tully will follow her ambition to find fame and success. Kate knows that all she wants is to fall in love and have a family.

What she doesn t know is how being a wife and a mother will change her. They think they ve survived it all until a single act of betrayal tears them apart. But when tragedy strikes, can the bonds of friendship survive? Or is it the one hurdle than even a lifelong friendship cannot overcome

I’m Laura. I started Novel Kicks in 2009. I wanted a place to post my writing as well as give other writers like me the opportunity to do the same. There is also a monthly book club, a writing room which features writing prompts, book reviews, competitions, author interviews and guest posts.

I grew up by the sea (my favourite place in the world) and I currently live in Hampshire. I am married to Chris, have a cat named Buddy and I would love to be a writer. I’m trying to write the novel I’ve talked so much about writing if only I could stop pressing delete. I’ve loved writing since creative writing classes in primary school. I have always wanted to see my teacher Miss Sayers again and thank her for the encouragement. When not trying to write the novel or writing snippets of stories on anything I can get my hands on, I love reading, dancing like a loon and singing to myself very badly. My current obsession is Once Upon a Time and I would be happy to live with magic in the enchanted forest surrounded by all those wonderful stories provided that world also included Harry Potter. I love reading chick lit. contemporary fiction and novels with mystery.
