It’s a pleasure to be welcoming Laura Carter back to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for her latest book, Catch a Falling Star.
It’s never too late…
Lyra Clarkson has built a career capturing other people’s perfect moments. She loves her work as a wedding photographer – despite her family’s disapproval – but she’s never quite found her own path.
Guy Walker, former rock star turned wedding singer, has hit a new low. Desperately needing cash, he’s agreed to take any gig his manager can get him, even if this new form of entertainment isn’t just singing.
As Lyra and Guy’s paths cross – in the most bizarre way possible – an unexpected kiss will change everything. But was it simply a chance encounter or is fate bringing them back together?
Now forced into each other’s lives for the entire wedding season, the unlikely pair may just figure out together how to realise both their dreams…

One night, Lyra shares a moment with her favourite musican as he performs on stage. When she is invited backstage to meet him, she allows herself to get swept up in the dream. However, a phone call at the dressing room door changes the trejectory of her life. Seven years later, she meets a stranger in a lift, one that feels really familiar.
Being a big fan of Laura Carter’s novels, I couldn’t wait to get started on her latest book, Catch A Falling Star.
It didn’t take me long to get really immersed into Lyra and Guy’s story. Lyra is a character that feels very real. She has the weight of expection on her shoulders and is scared to make the next step in her life.
Guy holds a lot of guilt and, like Lyra, is hiding away from what life has to offer. I wanted to bang their heads together and hug them all at the same time. They are a good example of people getting in their own way. I felt protective of them. I wanted them to be OK.
The supporting cast were brilliant. Dave, Mandy, Pearl, Lyra’s Dad. I loved them. I got a little annoyed at Lyra’s mother and sister but even they had their moments of loveliness.
The story moved along very well and kept me invested. This tale of a haunted ex-rockstar felt believable. Themes include grief, guilt and family expectations and how things can weigh you down if you don’t tackle them. It also reminds us that pursuing our dreams and allowing ourselves to be happy is important as well as the positivity this invites.
Catch A Falling Star had me laughing out loud one moment and nearly in tears the next. It takes you through all the emotions with a warmth and humour I have come to associate with this author. It’s a entertaining, whimical, romantic tale. I was sad it had to end. I loved it.
