Novel Kicks Writing Room: Making a Plan

Hello Wednesday and I’m pleased to be welcoming everyone back to the Novel Kicks Writing Room.

I don’t know about you but I am a big planner when it comes to my daily life. I don’t always keep to the schedule but it’s the thought that counts right? Haha.

So, today is all about making a plan – a plan for your character.

Grab an A4 piece of paper and down one side, write the times out as if you were looking at a diary –

7am –

8am-

9am…

…and so on until you get to 11pm.

Once you’ve done that, either pick someone from a piece you’re working on or alternatively you could pick a character from the list below –

Dentist

Ballerina

Lawyer

A Parking Attendant

A Spy

Plan out their day using the calender you’ve created. Try and have fun with it. For example, if you picked a dentist, could they be planning to go hand gliding?

Did completing the calender give you a better sense of the person? Did it spark any more ideas?

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.

I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
