Book Review: Two to Tango by Laura Carter

twototangoI’m pleased to be welcoming Laura Carter to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for her novel, Two to Tango.

A high-intensity personal trainer

The secret to Brooks’s success as a Manhattan gym owner? Being motivated to disprove everyone who ever doubted him. So he’s not about to let a perky newcomer like Izzy tarnish his reputation. Even if watching her lead a salsa class on his premises gets his own heartbeat raised…

His beautiful British rival

Every time influencer Izzy slams Brooks in her fitness blog, her book sales soar. But when their escalating media feud forces them to be up-close-and-personal for two weeks, she realizes there’s much more to Brooks than that lean and muscled body.

And a competition that’s got their hearts racing…

Soon Izzy and Brooks are finding all kinds of creative ways to work up a sweat. A passionate workout is easy, but can their rivalry give way to a lasting partnership?

*****

Brooks is the owner of the most successful gym in Manhattan. He’s worked hard and he intends to keep it that way. What he doesn’t count on is a visit from the successful Izzy, who wants to use his gym to record one of her famous salsa classes.

It’s not long before the pair clash but can they work through their differences to get through a challenge to swap workout routines for two weeks?

I was very excited to be invited onto the tour for this book as it sounded like a lot of fun and it didn’t disappoint.

Brooks is quite a closed off character, at least to begin with. He keeps his focus fully on his gym to keep his mind off the losses in his life. I think we’ve all done that at some point in our lives.

twototangoblogtourIzzy also holds herself back. Having to live in the shadow of a family who expects a lot from her, she is very driven to succeed but it becomes clear as the novel progresses that she may not be as happy with her career choice as everyone thinks despite how far she’s come.

When Brooks first meets Izzy, who has come to New York from London, all he sees is a pushy ‘celebrity.’ Izzy believes Brooks to be rude and unaccommodating. Yep, it’s not long before sparks fly. Will they fly in the right direction? That is a question I hope you’ll find out for yourselves. I liked them both. There’s more to both of them than meets the eye.

The supporting cast were brilliant and added a lot to the story.

The plot was fun, flirty and had moments where I proper laughed out loud. It moved at a great pace and I’m not going to lie, I had a bit of a book hangover when it finished. The swapping of lifestyles was an interesting premise and I believe shines a light on how important balance is when it comes to health and fitness.

This book has humour, love and friendship. It’s about how first impressions are not always correct and that you sometimes need courage to admit what is really important in life.

Holiday read, a book to cozy up with if the sun is out or chill out with when it’s raining – this book is perfect.

I’m not sure why it has taken me so long to discover Laura Carter. I am putting the first book in the Brits in Manhattan series (The Law of Attraction,) to my TBR pile and I am looking forward to reading the next in the series. You have a new fan, Laura.

Thanks to Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
