Book Review: Maddy’s Christmas Wedding by Rosie Green

I’m delighted to be welcoming Rosie Green back to Novel Kicks and the blog blitz for her book, Maddy’s Christmas Wedding, the latest in the Little Duck Pond series.

With the wedding of the year approaching, excitement is running high at the café! But there’s just one problem. Maddy is grappling with a secret.

Could it derail all of hers and Jack’s glorious plans for their big day? Will there actually be a wedding?

*****

Maddy is close to having the winter wedding she’s always dreamed of. Before marrying Jack, she and her friends head off to Lapland for her hen weekend. However, recent news has her keeping a secret. Is it big enough to stop the wedding and how long can Maddy keep it to herself?

I have read previous books in this series and loved them. I therefore jumped at the chance to be part of the one day blitz for Maddy’s Christmas Wedding, book 37 in the Little Duck Pond series. This, like many in the series can be read as a standalone.

This novel immediately gave me the festive feelings as I began to read. Set near Christmas, it plunges you right in to the joy of the season, especially when the characters head off to Lapland. If I didn’t want to go there before, I do now.

Told from the point of view of Maddy, Ellie and Fen, the plot unwinds nicely as we see the story from varying points of view. The secret Maddy is holding gives an extra mystery to the narrative that had me reading way after my bed time.

These characters are all strong women and I loved the camaraderie they had when they were together and the support they offered each other. I did feel a little sorry for Jack and for Maddy. Their situation is not one you’d wish to go through.

There was a mixture of humour, warmth and realistic situations in this book and by the end, I felt like I was saying goodbye to friends.

The themes include family, fertility, illness, love and friendship – yes, quite a mix. I’m not going to say much else. You know my feelings toward major spoilers.

Overall though, it’s a lovely novel with a romantic festive setting. It reminds us to have faith and that, at Christmas, anything can happen. A perfect addition to any December reading list.

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
