Book Review: The Sunshine Teashop By Jaimie Admans

I am so incredibly pleased to be welcoming Jaimie Admans to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for her new books,  The Sunshine Teashop.

Dolly Lymford is having one of those days… 🧁🫖

The kind that starts with dreams of opening a café… and ends with discovering your boyfriend kissing your best friend!

Heartbroken and with nowhere else to go, Dolly accidentally-on-purpose borrows her now-ex-boyfriend’s campervan and drives until the road runs out. This leads her to Thimblenouth, a picture-perfect Yorkshire Dales village where life moves more slowly and the kettle is always on.

After literally bumping into gorgeous local builder Reece Sterling, Dolly begins to feel something she hasn’t in a long time: safe. She also rediscovers her love of baking, filling the campervan with the scent of warm scones and freshly brewed tea. And Reece is always around to share a lemon pie or two…

When Dolly has an idea to open her own pop-up café, Reece is all too happy to help. And as the summer sun begins to warm everything it touches, Dolly wonders if she’s finally found a place to call home… maybe even with Reece.

But can she really build a future on borrowed wheels?

Novel A warm, uplifting story of fresh starts, village kindness, and finding love where you least expect it — best enjoyed with tea and cake.🍰

*****

Dolly is about to embark on a new business venture. Although she’s scared, she’s also excited. However, when a betrayal forces her to flee with the help of a neon green campervan, she doesn’t know what to do next. When she arrives in North Yorkshire, she begins to feel like she’s come home. The path to happiness doesn’t run smooth though and soon Dolly will have to make a choice – face her fears and move on or continue hiding.

I am such a fan of this author. I will jump at any chance I have to be part of a blog tour for her novels. The Sunshine Teashop was no exception.

First, the cover is very pretty and, having read the book, reflects its tone perfectly. Even though there are hardships and obstacles, there is an optimism running all the way through this novel. It felt like being embraced by a warm hug.

The plot moves well and feels very believable. Having a husband from Yorkshire, I can totally see the community embracing Dolly and helping her out wherever they can.

There is a bit of suspense throughout as the reader knows that certain events will occur but not sure when the shoe will drop. Themes, such as being cheated on, loss and loneliness are explored and are handled with care.

There are also bundles of warmth and blossoming romance.

Dolly underestimates herself a lot. I don’t blame her fearfulness after what she goes through. I loved seeing how she developed over the course of the story.

I adored Reece as much as I did Dolly. He has been through an unbelievably heartbreaking loss and can still manage to find happiness in the day. A little reminder that happiness is possible even when it feels dark.

Marge, Wilma and Lettie are fantastic ladies and a force of nature. Three people I’d certainly want in my corner. Their scenes were amongst my favourites. Thimblenouth sounded idyllic. It reminded me a little of the Yorkshire village, Wentworth.

Jared… well, I’d never wish anyone harm even a fictional character. Maybe if he could just trip over and fall in a river? Not be harmed but it may help him find some humility.

The Sunshine Teashop made me laugh, smile, feel sad, cheer… all the feels really. It’s a perfect escape and/or holiday read. It reminds us that there is power in community, even if that only consists of two people, that love and family can be found in the most expected moments, and that people can surprise you in the best of ways. It also proved to me that nothing will feel as bad when there is tea and cake!

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
