A Moment With… Olivia Lockhart

It’s exciting to be welcoming Olivia Lockhart to Novel Kicks and the blog tour for her book, No More Tomorrows.

Two eras. One aching heart.

1917 – At Cambridge University, American scholar Harry Turchin never expects to lose himself to desire. But Annie Mackenzie—soft-spoken, grieving, and luminous—claims his heart from their very first kiss. Their love is swift, fierce, and intoxicating. Married just days before Harry is sent to war, their passion is ripped apart when the trenches claim everything he knows, and Harry is thrown into a future that should not exist.

1967 – The free-spirited sixties are alive with rhythm, rebellion, and possibility. Harry awakens to a world he doesn’t recognise—and to Annalise Taylor, as bold and captivating as the era itself. Brilliant, independent, and achingly alive, she rouses a desire he thought belonged solely to the past.

Caught between the love he was ripped away from and the passion he cannot resist, Harry is torn between two women, two lives, and two versions of forever. Because time will not bend twice … Or will it?

Sweeping from the blood-soaked battlefields of World War One to the fevered nights of the swinging sixties, No More Tomorrows is a sensual time-slip romance about desire, devotion, and the devastating power of love that refuses to be bound by time.

To talk about the concept of No More Tomorrows, it’s over to you, Olivia.

Some of the best ideas for a book start with a little bit of scepticism.

That was certainly true for No More Tomorrows. Before we started writing it, I had never read a time-slip romance and hadn’t given the genre much thought at all. The idea actually came from my co-author, and when he first suggested it, I wasn’t entirely convinced.

But once we began writing, I quickly realised how much fun the concept could be.

Time-slip storytelling is fascinating because it blends together elements from several different genres. There are touches of fantasy and paranormal mystery, combined with contemporary storytelling and historical settings. When those elements come together well, they create something that feels almost magical – and for a romance writer, that magic can add an extra layer of emotional depth to a story.

For No More Tomorrows, the narrative moves between two different eras, following two young women whose lives are connected in unexpected ways.

Annie’s story unfolds in 1917, during a time shaped by war, hardship, and strict social expectations. Annalise’s story takes place decades later, in the colourful and rapidly changing world of the 1960s.

As I wrote their stories, I found myself imagining the two timelines very differently. Annie’s world appeared in my mind almost like an old photograph – muted, sepia-toned, shaped by duty and quiet resilience. Annalise’s world, by contrast, felt vibrant and full of movement. I imagined it in bright, psychedelic colours, filled with music, possibility, and the restless energy of a generation determined to reshape the future.

Despite the decades between them, however, these two young women share striking similarities.

Both have lost their fathers, both find themselves falling in love, and both are navigating the complicated expectations placed on young women in their respective eras.

Yet the worlds they inhabit could hardly feel more different. The contrast between the two periods almost makes it seem as though Annie and Annalise are living on entirely separate planets.

Exploring that contrast became one of my favourite parts of writing the story. It allowed me to examine how dramatically society can change over time, while also revealing how some emotional experiences remain universal.

Love, grief, hope, and longing are timeless feelings.

One decision I made early on was how the time slip itself would function within the story. Many time-travel narratives spend a great deal of time explaining the mechanics behind how characters move between eras. There are often complex scientific explanations about the rules of time, the technology involved, or the consequences of altering the past.

Those kinds of stories can be fascinating, but they belong more naturally within science fiction.

For No More Tomorrows, that wasn’t the direction I wanted to take. I didn’t want lengthy explanations about how or why the time slip occurred.

Because in this story, the most interesting questions aren’t about the mechanics of time travel.

The real story lies in what the characters do next.

How do they react when the world suddenly shifts around them? How do they process the emotions and revelations that come with it? How do they learn, grow, and sometimes fall apart as they try to make sense of the connection between past and present?

Those human reactions felt far more important than any scientific explanation ever could.

At its heart, No More Tomorrows explores the idea that the past is never truly separate from the present. The choices made by those who came before us ripple forward through time, shaping lives in ways we don’t always fully understand.

Sometimes those connections bring comfort. Sometimes they bring regret.

But one truth remains constant.

We cannot change what has already happened.

About Olivia Lockhart –

Olivia Lockhart (Livvie to her friends) is an English author who can’t quite decide if she wants to write contemporary romance, historical romance, or paranormal romance. So she writes them all, because it HAS to be romance!

She loves to write about the underdog, the one who got away, the bits of love stories we can all relate to.

When not writing she can be found drinking wine, cuddling with her beloved pooch, or with her head in a book.

I'm Laura. I started Novel Kicks back in 2009 as I wanted a place to discuss books and writing - two loves of my life. As someone who has anxiety, these two things give me, and I am sure countless others, a much needed escape.
There is a monthly book club, writing exercises, prompts, reviews, author interviews, competitions and guest posts. I cover many genres and I hope there is something for everyone.
I grew up by the sea in Dorset and currently live in Poole with my husband, Chris and three cats. I love writing and have a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from Falmouth University. I am writing my first book. If only I could stop pressing delete. Chris has threatened to stop it from working. Haha.
I have always loved creative writing since I was in first school and would very much like to meet my teacher, Miss Sayers, to say thank you for all the encouragement she gave me then.
When not writing, I love reading, cats, Disney, singing (I can't sing but this doesn't stop me,) and falling into a good TV show or film. If I could step into any fictional world, it would be amongst the characters in ABC's Once Upon a Time.
I love reading many genres and discovering new authors.
